Where we started

​

Michael, a qualified tennis coach discovered pickleball through a friend who had played in Florida. Upon googling pickleball he knew instantly that this unique sport had a bright future in Ireland. He decided to set up Pickleball Ireland in 2015 and since then, with his poor wife Helen, they have travelled to every county, spreading the word and selling equipment. According to Michael... " it was a hard sell in those early years, trying to introduce a new sport with a somewhat silly name. Today it is clear that this hard work has paid off. The sport has now taken off nationally and is set to become Ireland's most popular sport".
Michael stepped down from the admin side of the sport in 2022 to concentrate on coaching and grassroots development. Today he continues to introduce the sport to new groups and he revisits established clubs to help develop their skills.
Michael says " pickleball is and always will be my passion. I have been described as a pickleball evangelist. There is no doubt it is a life changing sport."

Michael handed over the business he had started to his daughter Roisín in 2022 and so Celtic Pickleball was founded. 

Michael has now joined the team at Celtic Pickleball as an advisor and Coach, working along side Roisín and Emma. With all his knowledge, Michael is here to assist with any queries in regards to setting up new clubs and what equipment will be needed and coaching.

We are based in Donegal and are currently the only supplier that exclusively sells Pickleball equipment in the Republic of Ireland. We don’t just supply Ireland, we will ship further, just contact us and we will be able to let you know how much shipping will cost.

We have a selection of paddles, nets, balls and accessories from some of the best manufacturers including Selkirk, Paddletek, Joola, Vulcan and Pickleball Central.

What is next?

We are always looking to expand our range to give pickleball players more choice and by the end of 2024 we are looking to include more brands to our store such as, Vatic Pro, Engage and ProXR.
